Help! My latexglue doesn't stick!
It can sometimes happen that the glue does not stick. It's not the glue. Our glue is extremely strong, we have also been using it for years and also for large inflatable objects where a lot of pulling force is applied to the seams. So it is always because of something else….
Step 1:
Read the instructions for use of the adhesive first. Click here.
Never thin the glue! A manufacturer has formulated the glue for the best result. Do not mess with the composition yourself.
Step 2:
Use thinner! No ecological thinner, no white spirit, no nail polish remover, etc. Click here for the differences between the various products.
Step 3:
What could have gone wrong...
- The glue is only suitable for natural latex rubber. So not for leather, textiles and lacquers, etc.
- You use the zipper glue (white/cream in color) for latex. The glue does not stick.
- Do you use old latex? Then it may be that the aging process has started. The latex is dried out or a bit sticky. So the glue does not stick or does not stick very well.
- Has the latex been treated with chlorine and hydrochloric acid (chlorinated)? Then the glue will not stick.
- Has the latex been frozen? The glue does not stick.
- Is the latex still wet/damp? The glue does not stick.
- Did you wash it recently? Then the outside may be dry but the core not yet. The glue does not stick.
- Is the latex treated with silicone/gloss? The glue does not stick.
- Has the latex not been washed properly? The glue does not stick.
- Is the latex not properly degreased? The glue does not stick
- Has the latex been degreased incorrectly (step 2)? The glue does not stick.
- Did you blow to make the glue/thinner dry faster? The glue does not stick because of the moisture.
- Has talcum powder got into the cleaned adhesive edge? The glue does not stick.
- Didn't you use a roller? The glue does not stick. Compressive strength is more important than drying time.
- Did you not let the thinner dry and did you immediately apply the glue? The glue does not stick.
- Didn't you let the glue dry before sticking the parts together? The glue does not stick.
